16 fully authentic heavy war arrows to be used in an upcoming project, featuring some of the leading historical arms and armour experts in the country.
There are two arrow profiles here, both of which are taken directly from measurements of Mary Rose arrows. The larger ones are MR80764/11 and the smaller arrows are MR82A1982/9.
Six are of black poplar (Populus nigra) and 10 are of English ash.
The arrows are all fitted with tapered cow horn nock inserts, glued in place with hide glue. The fletchings are swan feathers, bound with red or green silk into a compound containing beeswax, kidney fat and copper verdigris.
Each arrow has a true wrought iron arrowhead copied exactly from Museum of London arrowhead 7568, and half the heads have been case hardened.
Each arrow weighs between 75g and 85g.
They are now coming with me to Oxfordshire for stage two!
